Yeah my fault. Is there a way for me delete the thread or does a mod have to do that?

Have you guys though about replacing Holds with Quality Starts?! Just a better evaluator of a good pitcher. Either way Im fine, just wanted to throw this on the table

Just another lean on starting pitching, and having holds lets people set up their teams differently.
I actually signed on to address a couple other things, though. First, please put bids and nothing else into the nomination threads. I haven't looked at the threads yet, so I don't know if this is an issue. However, just wanted to say it. Second, the bids themselves. I've laid low so I know whom to watch for as far as outrageous bidding. I now have an idea (I can tell by simply looking at the action without opening a thread). I'm not the "threatening" type, and it's not even about that. Hasn't gotten far enough to be a problem. Just saying that it doesn't need to become one.
As long as I have the floor, I'm going to Tampa next weekend. No, Ken: I'm not going to look for Paul. My availability will be limited during that time. I'll be around, just not as much.

I haven't seen any outrageous bidding...more just guys wanting ONE player to end up being drafted before March. Have a good time in Tampa

So what happens when a team has the highest bid on a player for 24 hours?

Post by Benny on Feb 19, 2013 18:24:18 GMT -5
Bidding is over and the player with the high bid wins. I just stepped in from work, so I haven't had a chance to look things over yet.
As far as what I posted earlier, it's not that big a deal yet at all. I just don't want it to become one. That's all I was trying to say. As far as I'm concerned, we're all good.
Re: Tampa...I just threw that out there to make sure I didn't forget to tell everyone. Better to say so 10 days early than 10 minutes late (well, you get the point).
Now, time to see who's been won.

Wow Nice Bidding Raider! You now have $579 out in live bids...

Might as well push it to $260...I know I won't win them all but might as well stay active and keep the prices moving on up! All of the best players are obviously on the board for the most part

I guess we are allowed to bid with money we don't have

This is a FANTASY league, not the federal Government, But, OK, if that is the rule than I could bid on every player Continuously into infinity and the draft will never reach an end. Every player will be bid into the millions.
Towards the end of the Draft, when i have a mostly full roster and only $10 left, I would be able to artificially raise the price of most of the players on the board, knowing that I won't be able to pay.

OK, just to let just to let everyone know, at the moment if he wins all his live bids, Robinson Cano is the player that pushes him over $260.

Sorry, I just think that this is an obvious flaw in the leagues rules and I also that that it would be common sense that you could only bid what money you had available.

I can do that if it would make you feel better. I think its more of a flaw because of the OFFLINE DRAFT than not. This is my first one I've done and I enjoy it but obviously a real ESPN Auction is preferred. You worry about yourself and I will worry about me. Thanks though for the concern dude but I have done this long enough to take care of my own. If it becomes a rule I can abide by it but AT LEAST 1/2 my bids won't be the winning bids. The higher the prices get the less I bid because a lot of these guys are already over their draft value. I know at what level I will or will not get stuck with a guy.

As of now I have approx $540 in live bids (which I will lose more than half) but I will absolutely tone it down to a more realistic level

I really think there should be some sort of rule on bidding. It does not seem right to be able to bid with more than you have to spend just to increase the cost of a player. I guess, to me, it would make sense that in order to bid you must have the funds available if you win. Also, you must have enough funds left over to fill your 25 man roster. So basically if you have 18 players at the moment and have $36 dollars left to spend, then I think the most you should be able to bid on a player is $30 which would, assuming you win, put you at 19 players with $6 left. Then you technically would be able to get 6 additional players at $1 each and fill your roster.
With that being said, I do 100% understand the strategy. Hell I even thought about doing it before I realized it probably is not the most ethical thing to do. I am new here so I know I do not have much of a say but figured I would put in my thoughts. Would be interesting to see what a admin/moderator thinks.

My feeling is the excessive bidding is EXTREMELY annoying (trying to be polite), but in the absence of a rule preventing it....
IF things do fall a certain way and enough bids are won, that team could end up with a team that cannot be competitive, which could leave to the owner quitting. This would also void the remaining bids of record by that team, causing the next highest bidding team to win a player they were not expecting. Etc., etc. potentially putting the integrity of the league in jeopardy.
Maybe none of this happens and everything is fine, but the potential is there. I will defer to Benny on any new rules, but would personally like "reasonable" bidding to be taking place.

Apologies that my bids come in waves, I'm over in the UK so time difference is a factor for me. I miss a lot of the evening bidding.
I think I'm being reasonable though, from a rough count my bids have me around $200-220 (if I was to win them all which is next to impossible).

You can post as much as you want Andy, as long as you don't go over $260. If you are just nominating a bunch of players at 1 time you will have many bids out, but as long as it isn't over $260 , I have no problem with what you are doing. I am not sure if you are over or not because I did not count.
But yes I agree with you Ken.
